Our brand new ABC podcast is out! 😸👀💃 (Copy)

Lacrimose Listeners! Honor here this time.

A few short months ago, I had a dilemma.

There was an important thing I was supposed to have done, but I definitely hadn’t done it.

(And I really didn’t want to.)

For years I’d been making phone recordings of some of the darkest, messiest moments in my life. Voice memos from my time in a psych hospital. Voice memos from my most recent trip back to Doom Town earlier this year.

So, not my finest moments y'know?

I had somehow convinced the ABC (Australia’s well-respected national broadcaster) to make a highly produced narrative podcast with me and Graham - based partly on these recordings.

But now I faced the reality of what that actually involved. In a very immediate sense, that reality meant I needed to upload all these verrrry unflattering bits of tape to a shared folder, so that my new colleagues at the ABC could listen through them all, transcribe and catalogue them.

Uh. Oh.

While this looks like Executive Producer Joel had to chase me down with the mic, it's actually us getting the most true-to-life 'curling in a ball on the floor' sound for episode 3. Audio vérité people!

Despite my new colleagues' many lovely reassurances, I was afraid to upload the voice memos. Afraid their real response would be, ‘ohhh, she proper crazy!’ And that they wouldn't want to make the podcast anymore.

My professional life is full of instances like these. There are times I love it, and times it still makes me want to curl up on the floor.

But I did the thing, people! I uploaded the tape. And not only did I not get fired for being too crazy, we actually made the show! A show unlike anything I’ve ever heard on this topic. A tender, funny, intimate little show that both Graham and I are more proud of than anything we’ve ever done.

And this bit, right here? This is the bit that makes all the scary and awkward bits worth it. This is the bit where I get to say, hey, come look at the thing we made!!! 👋👋👋

No Feeling Is Final: a story in six parts from ABC Audio Studios

Usually when we talk about suicide we say those four magic words: “just ask for help”. But Honor Eastly knows it’s not that simple. At times heartbreaking, and desperate – but also darkly funny, and charming, No Feeling Is Final is a story of difference, identity, and why we should stay alive.

How do I listen??

Episode Zero is up now. It’s a little taster episode that sets up the show. *Definitely start there!*

It's a six-part story. Episodes 1 through 6 will come out every couple of days from October 1st.

Click the buttons below to launch it in your podcast player.

Or search “No Feeling Is Final” in your podcast player. (Note: ABC doesn't post in Stitcher or Spotify because of ads.)

How can I talk about the show with y’all?

This month our online and real life meet ups (formerly known as ‘the book club for feelings’) will be all about No Feeling Is Final.

In the private Facebook group, we’ll have a thread for every episode. Share your thoughts, feelings, crymoji, and curly questions in there. Graham and I will be in there too, joining in.

Start by chiming in over here on the Episode Zero thread.

(If you’re not in the group yet, click ‘join group’ then answer the question that pops up.)

Come to our real life meet up in October!

For Melbournians, October’s real life meet up will also be about the show. You’ll get to chat with other Big Feels Clubbers, plus me and Graham.

It’s on Saturday October 13th, the day after the sixth and final episode comes out.
